A Survey Based Analysis of the Recreational Sport Fishing Value of Western Australian Salmon
This study was funded through a grant awarded under the Recreational Fishing Initiatives Fund through Recfishwest. The documents economic aspects of recreational fishing for Western Australian salmon (Arripis truttaceus). An online survey collected basic information on: the characteristics of salmon fishers; salmon catch and by-catch; the seasonality of fishing, origin of fishing trips, destination of fishing trips, boat launch locations and length of fishing trips; expenditure on fishing by major expenditure items for both shore and boat fishing and the share of this expenditure made at the fishing trip destination. Expenditure data collected was used to estimate the economic contribution of recreational salmon fishing to local communities. The also produced indicative estimates of fisher’s valuation of the salmon fishing experience based on willingness to pay to and ranking questions included in the online survey. . The final report was released by the Premier and the Minister for Fisheries on Feb 24 2020. City of Kwinana Economic Analysis for Local Planning Strategy
ERA worked with Syme Marmion to provide a detailed analysis of the economy of the City of Kwinana as an input to the preparation of a new Local Planning Strategy. The analysis acted as a guide for the allocation of land to various land uses and the preparation of future strategies to guide employment and economic development. The study was designed to bridge the gap between planning and economics, recognizing the key role that land availability and land use planning plays in facilitating economic development.
Muchea Land Development
ERA worked with Syme Marmion to provide the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage, on behalf of the WAPC, with a Land Demand and Economic Assessment to inform an update of the Muchea Industrial Park (MIP) Structure Plan.
Value of Recreational Fishing in WA.
ERA was awarded a grant under the Recreational Fishing Initiatives Fund through Recfishwest. The survey based study estimates the expenditure by both shore and boat based recreational fishers across the major expenditure items. An estimate is made of the consumer surplus associated with this expenditure to gain an estimate of the gross value of recreational fishing to the fishers. The final report was released by the Premier and the Minister for Fisheries on March 6 2018. Transport Infrastructure Funding Model
ERA worked with Synergies Consulting to develop and test a range of models for the Commonwealth Grants Commission on the drivers of public transport recurrent and and investment expenditure using data for SUAs across Australia.
Armadale City Centre Development Business Case
ERA worked with Syme Marmion on assessing land use and transport options for the re development of the Armadale Ciy Centre. Transport options included sinking the railway. Land use options included mix of commercial and residential options.
Transport Infrastructure Finance.
ERA worked with the Planning and Transport Research Centre at UWA to review options for future funding of transport infrastructure in WA. Regulatory Pathways
ERA worked with Strickland Park Economics to review processes for approving new major agricultural projects in WA and make recommendations on improvements to facilitate agricultural investments in WA while preserving levels of environmental management and protection.
Pinjarra Bypass
ERA worked with Syme Marmion to undertake a cost benefit analysis and develop a business case for investing a new bypass road for Pinjarra.
Global Trade Model for Rock Lobster
ERA has been working with the Western Australian Rock Lobster Council to develop a global trade data base for lobster exports and imports and analyze trends in demand and prices by country and species.
International Oceanographic Commission
ERA and Strickland Park Economics combined to undertake the Independent Review of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission Perth Programme Office. The review covered operations, scientific achievements and funding.
